The Pathway To Discipleship
Welcome to The Pathway to Discipleship at University United Methodist Church. We are excited when people join our church, but are more excited when they engage in a lifelong journey of discipleship. The word “disciple” comes from a Greek word that translates as “student” or “apprentice.” It is our goal here at University to help you begin this journey of a lifetime as an apprentice of Jesus Christ.
At University this journey takes the form of a process called The Pathway to Discipleship, where we look to Jesus, to look more like Jesus. We believe that there are three major phases of this journey:
We all need to have a meeting with Jesus. The “Meeting” phase is designed to introduce you to Jesus, and help you understand your need for Him in your life.
Secondly, once you’ve met Jesus, you need to learn His message. The “Message” phase provides you an opportunity to delve into the Scriptures to study God’s Word and how that affects your life.
Lastly, God has called each of us to live out a mission for Him. The “Mission” phase helps you discern what that mission is, and equips you to begin to live that mission out.
In each phase, we provide three ways in which you can experience Meeting, Message, and Mission – a Bible study, a small group, or an immersion event. We believe that if you choose one offering from each phase, you’ll have a great start on your journey of discipleship, gaining the knowledge, tools, and relationship you will need to open your heart and mind to the transformative power of God.
We hope that you’ll engage yourself in this journey through The Pathway to Discipleship. If you put your heart into the process, we will do all we can to help you along the way. If you have any questions or need anything, please let us know!
